How do I insure my car in France?
How do I insure my car in France?
Posté le: Jeu Jui 24, 2010 10:39 am
Hello,
Please help!!
We are going to be moving to the Chantilly region in the next few months. Initially I will be keeping my English car. Any recommendations as to whom I can insure it with - English speaking company? Also, I will be driving it back to the UK occasionally - will I have to get temporary UK insurance for each trip or is there some clever way of being insured for both countries?
Finally - what about breakdown cover in France? Is there AA/RAC equivalent?
Many thanks!
Joanna

Joanna,
I can highly recommend Franck Haloche for car insurance. We insured our UK car here for a year when we first arrived, and Franck will supply all his documents in English to make it easier. I do believe that they can offer breakdown cover as part of the package too.
Give them a ring (they'll speak in English) or email them - their details are here. (Please quote the Powells and ChantillyExpat if you do go with him)...

Thank you so much!! What a quick reply and what a great website.
We are going to put in an offer on a house in Chantilly tomorrow - if it all starts going through, I will have LOTS more questions. We are looking at late September/ early October for our move. I am somewhat daunted at leaving all our friends here but I have been assured that there is a thriving, friendly expat community so I am hoping to become a part of it!

There is indeed a great community here - and plenty of people arriving over the last few months so you won't be alone! Feel free to ask any questions you might have - I'm trying to persuade the greater part of the community to respond to forum posts but it's not easy getting them in front of their computers - however if you ask something we can normally find out the right person to ask to help.
Look forward to meeting up in the Autumn - you'll love it here I'm sure!

Thanks Adrian. I have been in contact so far with Susan Toursel and another lady from these forums. I will definitely be very keen to get involved in things and meet lots of people when we are in Chantilly. Our two children are hopefully going to start at the BMSO - although the 3 year old is on the waiting list at the moment - and it is seeming much more 'real' now that we are (fingers crossed) buying a house.
I expect the main things I will need advice about in weeks to come are the big issues such as finding a doctor's surgery, optician, best supermarkets etc.
Thanks again and yes, look forward to meeting you in perosn in a few months!

Adrian could also have mentioned that I am an insurance consultant and that I can help you with house and car insurance - ask Susan ! If you need a mortagage, I can handle the life insurance that goes with it. if you have children, don't forget their obligatory school insurance too. I am English and have lived in the area for over 20 years and in France for more than 30 years. Give me a call on: 06 81 22 92 17 or e-mail me at : geoffauck @ free.fr or even visit my website at www.aucklandassurances.com

Dear Geoffrey,
We are now moving to Gouvieux in October and I do indeed need to discuss insurance!
We will be changing my car for s French one quite soon, but in the meantime I need it to be insured for both France and the UK. What's the best/most cost effective way of doing this?
Also, I need insurance for my children. The 5 year old starts at the BMSO in CP, and the 3 year old in the BMSO Petite Section (in October).
Many thanks and I look orward toi hearing from you,

You could consider Clements worldwide - large US insurer, I've always had great service with them, they are very flexible on plates, insuring the vin number of the car
