Newbie Here.

Post Posted: Sun Aug 03, 2008 8:04 pm

Hi There,

I've been living in Chantilly since January but just stumbled across this website. I'm a single 40 something American living close to the train station and working in Compiegne as an IT manager on a local contract. I've been living in Europe for about 10 years now, five of which in France and I speak fluent French.

I like mountain biking for excersize in the forests around Chantilly. I'm also into Geocaching and Waymarking as hobbies (Check out www.geocaching.com and www.waymarking.com) and also botany.

I'm looking for others with similar interests or at least those who don't mind when I get a little distracted by them.

My personal website is at www.overthebrink.com.

If anyone is up for a bike ride, I would love to share some of my favorite rides around Chantilly.

Cheers,
Rob.

Rob,

First of all welcome to the site - always good to see new faces! I hope you'll be able to add to the core of knowledge here.

Can't say I've ever Geocached or Waymarked before - I haven't orienteered since scouts! However, if you are interested in something sporty with other expats how about cricket? We're always interested in introducing people to the sport.

We have a team going up at Apremont (you can get directions from the cricket section of this site) and we have regular practice sessions on Fridays. There is actually a match this Friday (8th August) if you fancy cycling up to have a look, and next Friday (15th) from about 6 we're going to try and get people together for a bit of a play around - maybe a good introduction if you're interested.

I will also pass on your message to a few people who may be interested in bike rides too.

Thanks for the warm welcome Adrian. I'm afraid I'd have to take a Cricket 101 class before daring to step on the pitch with non-American English speakers. I'm afraid we Yanks are a bit baffled by it all. Also I'm working in Compiegne so I'm very rarely back in Chantilly before 19:00.

But I'm definately interested in other social events. Keep me on your list.

Cheers,
Rob.

How about 5-a-side football (sorry, soccer)? I'm trying to drum up some interest in that too..
