New to lamorlaye

Post Posted: Tue Oct 07, 2008 5:23 pm

Hi All

I am new to Lamorlaye and thought I would say hi.

I am 32, and have an apartment here in the lovely town of Lamorlaye. I have been here about a month, and am working over here, the office is in Garges at the moment, but its not a very nice place, so plan to move it out this way as soon as I can.

Anyway all going well until yesterday (06,10,08) when I returned from a meeting in Paris about 14:00 to find that my car had been stolen.......
It was only 3 months old, a lovely looking redish A4. Brit plates and right hand drive. It was parked right outside my apartment block, where myself and the neigbours all park. Needless to say I was most upset by it. The Gendamerie think it was either taken to order or is by now in a million bits. The worst thing is it had some of my sons things in (he is only 2 and bit), but hey I guess thats life. I thought I would let you guys know.

P.s. I was wondering if there is a social scene I might tap into? ALso has anyone tried the Kung Fu or Savate class here in Lamorlaye?

Welcome to the site - hope it can be useful to you.

Sorry to hear about the car. I had heard from someone only the other week that there was a real epidemic of car crime occuring in Chantilly - very sad to hear that it may have spread to Lamorlaye. Do you not have off-road parking with the apartment?

There is indeed a social scene - although mostly around the schools and kids to be honest. Everyone I know seems to have kids! Do you have only the one? There is a mothers group that meets at the church centre every week (details on the site) which could help your wife - and quite a few keep fit/pilates type things going on too for them.

There's less going on for the guys as everyone seems to be working too hard! A group of us do try and get to the Sylvia in Chantilly on a Friday night so if you fancy coming along let me know and I'll see who's around. There are also plenty of people who play golf, and a few guys have mentioned cycling on these forums too. Not sure of any who do Martial Arts though...

I also try and get tickets for gigs and sports events when I can which always makes for a good night out.

Let me know if you're interested in a beer one out and we'll try and meet up. I've replied to your other post about football so hopefully we can get that started. Cricket is the other one for the summer if you play! How long are you here for?

Hi Adrian
I am here indefinatly, I have just taken over our France based operation so am kinda just here and suckin and seeing. My wife and son are still at home in the UK. I go back at weekends at the moment, he has just started nursery and Clare is working etc.....Its funny we had to search far and wide to find a nursery that can help him with is french...I swear he understands more than me most of the time...mind you thats not too difficult.
Yeah I have parking under the apart block, but its quite tight and you know how it is, its easier to park in the open. I live just near Picard..if you know it and the car got taken from right outside the shop...bloody annouying..
Golf sounds good, i have been told there are some nice courses in the area...You play?
A beer with a few blokes also sounds good, although as i say I try to get home at weekends...I know the working to hard bit...its all been a bit hectic for me since i go there...a challenge though, and my language is coming on leaps and bounds as not many of my guys speak English..

It'll stay a challenge for a while I think - we're going on 7 years here and still haven't got everything cracked!

There are some cracking golf courses around - Bellefontaine, Rary, Chantilly, Apremont to name but a few. I play but haven't this year funnily enough.

I'll let you know when next we go out - could be this Friday if you're here?

Hi Adrian,

You mentioned people sometimes get together at the Sylvia. I would be interested in joining one of these days to become more familiar with the Anglophone community around here.

My e-mail address is rob @ overthebrink.com in case you want to shoot me an e-mail.

Cheers,
Rob.

No worries at all Rob - it's been a bit hit and miss the last couple of months but I'll email you when we next go out...
