Obtaining Health Insurance
Obtaining Health Insurance
Posté le: Lun Avr 10, 2006 1:00 pm
Hello,
My husband and I are both from California. He moved here two years ago after being hired by a French company. I recently relocated to Chantilly after my visa was approved through the process of Family Reunification. I was able to obtain a visa that allows me to work. If I ever find a job, I would qualify for the French Securite Sociale, but until then, does anyone know if I am eligible to receive the same kind of health insurance my husband receives through the French Securite Sociale? We went to the Sous-Prefecture in Creil and I think their response was "No," however, we were told by a friend that I could be "attached" to my husband's health insurance after a certain period of time. It almost seems like the rules change according to the weather. Any info would help. If you also have any leads on good health insurance companies, I would be forever thankful. --Joyce

I would personally think that you should be covered if your husband is registered with the Securite Social. The best way to check this however would be to speak with the CPAM where you husband is registered. He should have registered with the local one here as you have both moved here - it is in Creil, phone number 0820 904 113. There is also an english speaking CPAM helpline you could call for advice if your french is not up to it - 0820 904 212.

Thank you for the information. We called CPAM last week and we will be meeting with someone there to get things in order. Thanks again for your help!
