Ready for the Ride? : The ‘Race for St. Peter’s’ Challenge
On 11th May a group of 10 cyclists and a support team of 6 people will begin a cycling challenge. The Race for St.Peter's is a 530km cycle ride from Twickenham, England (the residence in excile of Chantilly's Duc d'Aumale) to Chantilly, France (the home of St.Peter's Church built on land granted by the Duc d'Aumale). The aim of the ride is to mark 150 years of Christian ministry and to raise funds to aid in the restoration of the Church.
The Route:
The journey begins in Orleans House, Twickenham, the residence in exile, of Chantilly’s duc D’Aumale. We cycle on to the weald of East Sussex before embarking on a ferry at Dover. From there we head for St. Omer, onto Bapaume into the historic region of the Somme. There we pay our respects to the memory of John Attwood, killed in action on 31st July 1916 and commemorated in a memorial window inside the church. We cycle through Amiens and on to Beauvais. Then it is home and the finish outside the church in Chantilly and a Welcome Home party!
