Hello,

My name is Joyce and I very recently moved to Chantilly from San Diego California this month. I have visited here before these past two years, but I am officially living here now. My husband, who is also from San Diego, began working for a French company two years ago, which is how I came to be here. I am a little homesick, but the opportunity to live in another country, so far from where I consider home, is quite valuable. Any suggestions you may have for a smooth transition into the "unknown" would be greatly appreciated.

Well, first of all, welcome to Chantilly! It is a beautiful place to live and I am sure that you will find enough to do to help you settle in. People here are very friendly, locals and expats alike, and most will do anything to help if you just ask!

Secondly welcome to ChantillyExpat.com! This is a new site, just starting out really so you may find some of the sections a little 'light'. That is changing though, and we are making an effort to put as much useful stuff on here as we can. Needless to say, if you have any questions just ask, if we don't know the answer we'll try and find someone who does!

As far as a 'smooth transition' goes there are a large number of expat 'partners' here in the Chantilly area who seem to meet up fairly reguarly in town for lunch or coffee. Do you have any children? That seems to be a focal point too. If you look on the calendar there is a coffee morning planned for April 25th click here to see the details. That would be a great point to meet some new people.

Hopefully we'll be able to help you feel welcome here in Chantilly - the most important thing is that you are not alone!

Incidentally there is a lady offering french conversation classes who has put her details in the 'language' section of this forum... Might be worth a call?
