Howzit Folks,
I'm new to the area. I recently moved to Senlis from South Africa, although I'm originally Canadian. I also work in Gouvieux so I spend a lot of time in the area.
I'm loving living amongst the forests and am settling in nicely, but I'd like to meet some more people in the area. Most of my colleagues live in Paris so meeting in the evenings and weekends can be problematic. If anybody knows of how to go about meeting people in the area, I would greatly appreciate a shove in the right direction.
I'm 29 years old, but I don't particularly mind the age of people I meet. I generally get along with most people. My interests are mostly outdoors based, i.e. running and hiking. I'm keen on rugby and enjoy watching it within a festive atmosphere. I also figure that while I'm living in France I might as well learn to cook and maybe a thing or two about wine. So if anybody knows where I can get more info on courses (preferably offered in the evenings or weekends) that would be great too.
If there are any upcoming groups events that I should be aware of, please send them my way.
Feel free to email me directly (gibbmatthew@hotmail.com).
Looking forward to meeting a few new faces.
Cheers
Matthew

Matthew,
Firstly welcome to the area - it is a great place to live, away from the bright lights of the big city but close enough to still have that 'buzz'. There are quite a few of us expats here as you can imagine - so there are numerous ways of getting together with people.
As far as the running and hiking go, I'm not the one to talk about that too much, as most people who know me will testify
However, there is a gang of us who go to the autumn rugby internationals in Paris each year when we can, and I'm sure there'll be quite a few watching the world cup rugby together. There is an Irish bar in the centre of Chantilly called the Triskell which will no doubt be showing all the games...
There is also a cricket team just starting this year in Chantilly which will see quite a few expats turning up. You can find details on the front page of the site, along with the joining form in the download section. They are having an open day on May 1st which would be a great place for you to meet people.
We also try and get a few lads together on a Friday night where we can at the Sylvia in Chantilly. This is a bit dependent on school holidays etc as most of the people I know have kids. I can let you know when we are next going down there if you like.
So a welcome awaits if you can make it - along with a cold beer!

Howzit Adrian,
It certainly does sound like there are a few expats located in the area, and it would be nice to meet up with a few of you.
I'm afraid as a Canadian I didn't have much exposure to cricket, but living in South Africa you don't have much choice in the matter. I was subjected to a few matches, but I couldn't tell you who won, much less who played. The atmosphere was great though.
I’m also looking forward to the rugby world cup. I’m hoping to get to a few games, but I’ll have to wait closer to the time to see what my schedule is like. I work for His Highness the Aga Khan so my time is not always my own.
Getting together at Triskells (I had a pint there last Friday) or at the Sylvia sounds like a plan. Any idea if anybody will be out this Friday? I might have a look if I know somebody is around.
Other than that, thanks for the response. I look forward to meeting the locals. You can reach me directly at gibbmatthew @ hotmail.com if you wish.
Thanks
Matthew

I'm not sure anyone will be there this week - being school holidays and being that most of us are blessed :ahem: with kids most people are away on holiday! I'll certainly try and email you the next time we're going out.
Regarding the cricket it would be great to see you as a member if only, as you say, for the social side! I'm by no means a 'cricketer' but will be trying to get a game every now and then.
Maybe we'll see you at the rugby world cup - I've got tickets for 4 matches at the stade. Question is who will you be supporting? Must be a touch choices with all those links to rugby playing nations!
Will be in touch after the holidays and we'll try and get a beer - if not at the cricket open day on the 1st...

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.
