Villa SpicyThe date was 7th November, the venue central Paris as a brave carload From Chantilly and another from Senlis took on the A1 and November weather in the quest to find a parking space in central Paris.
After exchanging our BMW for a piece of paper ( a fair swap in many people's eyes), we arrived at villa spicy, a seemingly unassuming restaurant from the outside, but with a cosy, welcoming ambience inside.
Immediately, our aperitifs arrived with kirs all round whilst we played the waiting game of when the other car would arrive!
Finally we were all there and the starters were served with Green pea soup served with a morelle of goats cheese and candied chicken gizzards served with lentils being popular choices.
Swiftly afterwards with an unusual display of French efficiency, the mains arrived. Pollock steak (yes spelt correctly) served with lemon and celery was very popular along with "blackened" chicken served with a creamy mashed potato, which came with a lovely jus, served either 'a table' or 'a la chemise' according to taste.
Afterwards, we had a few moments to reflect and wipe jus from clothes before desserts arrived.
Again there were 2 clear favourites, a brioche served with ice cream and caramel sauce or mixed sorbets and biscuits that were very well received and received many plaudits afterwards.
The wines selected, complemented the choice of food well with Pinot rouge and casa Orvieto satisfying most palettes, for the non drinkers amongst us, there was a steady flow of Chateau Vittel 2007, one of it's finest years.
All that was left was to pay the bill, negotiate dry cleaning and to listen to the new owner of the BMW beg for his piece of paper back at the valet parking.
So conclusions.....
Despite the obvious hassle of travelling into Paris on a late, wet, wintery evening, I believe everyone had a most agreeable evening.
The food was certainly up to standard and so would get an 8.5/10, service was very good and in one case just a bit too keen but this also cannot be faulted and so gets 9/10 (no mean feat in Parisian restaurants). That doesn't mean it was quick by rest of the world standards!
So overall I would give the experience 9/10 and would recommend to readers that the trip into Paris is well worth it, both for a social meal with friends or for an intimate occasion with partners.
They will certainly push the (gravy) boat out for you...........
