CCC vs The Nomads - 25th August 2007

Despite fielding a depleted side due to injuries and holidays Chantilly Cricket Club gave another good account of themselves on Saturday 25th August against a strong touring side from the U.K, the Nomads.

Nomads were founded in 1903 and have a strong pedigree. At least two of their side fielded on Saturday had played for a county team or the MCC. They went on to win their other 2 tour matches against Thoiry and the Standard Club.

Winning the toss, Nomads elected to bat and after mastering the matted wicket, amassed a score of 215 for 7 in their 35 overs. Chantilly, captained by Nick Clarke knew they were never going to match the run rate of more than a run per ball. That did not stop them scoring 151 for 6 in their 35 overs with a magisterial 56 from Nick Shepherd and Nick Clarke’s 36. Their third wicket stand of 92 was probably a record for CCC.

The so called lower order batsmen such as Nick Jones and Simon Hedley slogged several balls well into the outfield. The bowlers also stuck at their task well with Tristram being rewarded for his efforts by clean bowling a former Durham county player. CCC’s fielding was exemplary in the heat and the youngsters drafted into the side all accredited themselves very well and gained valuable experience.

Well done lads!
