Posted by: webmaster on Tuesday September 14, 2010 (01:20:44)
This weekend Rob and Jean-François took part in the "Foulées de Saumur-Champigny", an 8 and a bit km race round the vineyards of Saumur. We could go in fancy dress so the boys i.e. Rob and Jean-François came up with this! They made our friend René also dress up (mainly because he's the fastest and they hoped it would slow him down a little).
They managed the whole 8 km with the occasional stop for degustation every now and then. I guess the hardest part was through the "cave" up and down step!. Halfway round the course they found a spare pompom (pulled from a clown's outfit I think) and used that as a cricket ball, which went well until Rob caught JF round the back of the head with the bat. Luckily no damage done!
(The wives also did it but those photos are not for publication!) more ...

Et alors! How French cricketers aim to beat us at our game own
Posted by: webmaster on Wednesday June 09, 2010 (17:00:27)

From The Times - June 5 2010
For centuries it was dismissed by the French as an incomprehensible activity practised by British eccentrics and the inhabitants of other nations that had had the misfortune — or the poor judgment — to fall under British influence.
Now France has decided to take us on at our own game, aiming for nothing less than humiliation for les Anglais at Lord’s — albeit within a few decades.
The rise of cricket has been marked by its introduction to primary schools where pupils are getting to grips with le coup d’équerre (the square cut), la balle courbée vers l’extérieur (the outswinger) and a triumphant cry of et alors (howzat).
A state cricket diploma is expected to receive official approval this year in a step towards France’s first professional cricket coaches. “We have several buds which we are nurturing,” Tony Banton, the chairman of France Cricket, the national cricket association, said. more ...

CCC AGM for 2009 season
Posted by: webmaster on Sunday January 17, 2010 (01:24:33)
Once again the St Peter's Church Hall was the venue for CCC's delayed AGM for the 2009 season. We are very lucky to have a 'hands on' president in the shape of Jonathan Pease who delivered a warmly received speech.
We are also lucky in having a good selection of juniors who are already threatening the 'senior' team for places. Indeed out 'most improved player' award went to one such junior, Patch.
Our club captain and scorer, in the shape of Rob and Sue did us all proud with their 'prize giving', probably the highlight of the season. We were also blessed with a good turnout of 'wives and others' who were able to enjoy a great selection of food and drinks.
Please click 'read more' to see the Captain's annual report. more ...

New French Cricket magazine
Posted by: webmaster on Friday September 18, 2009 (01:25:04)
At last a magazine about Cricket in France ! Its 56 pages are full of exciting and topical content with first rate pictures. The literary style is excellent but ...it is in French. No matter, you can handle that when its well written, can't you? Good for your French learning curve! Chantilly gets several mentions not the least with regard to the big match between France and England in 2012. You can read it here : France Cricket Magazine

Chantilly Cricket in the Telegraph
Posted by: webmaster on Thursday May 07, 2009 (18:42:02)

An article appeared in the Daily Telegraph on 26th April 2009 titled 'France throw down gauntlet to English cricket'. If you don't know the story apparently the only time cricket has been played at an Olympic Games was a match contested between England and France at the Paris Games of 1900. England were the winners that day, by 158 runs in the two-day match held at the velodrome in Vincennes. So France, runners up that day, consider themselves the 'Silver Medallist', and second best team in the world!
But now France Cricket has thrown down the gauntlet once more, challenging England to a rematch in Lille shortly before the start of the 2012 Games in London.
A Telegraph correspondant decided to check on the state of French cricket and visited Chantilly to find the French team. The article details what he found.
